ALEA says all commercial vehicles in Alabama must be marked with an interstate or intrastate USDOT number. An intrastate company running straight trucks or trucks with trailers rated 26,000 pounds GVWR or GCWR or less is exempt from the federal regulations inside Alabama and needs no USDOT number, unless it runs passenger buses or hauls hazardous materials or hazardous waste.
